The blast took place at the German Bakery, an old business establishment, at approximately 6.30 pm. The site is reportedly located close to the local Chabad House as well as the hotel where terror suspect David Headley stayed during his visit to the city. An improvised explosive device had been used to trigger the blast. It was probably aimed at not just locals but also the foreigners in the bakery.
Now I know what will happen. The Indian Government will condemn these attacks and say this sort of attacks will not be tolerated.They will say Pakistan on its part should fight terror. That is all they will say. Last month over a flimsy reason(the IPL "controversy") the Pakistani parliament decided not to send its delegation to India. After that the Indian government decided to hold talks with Pakistan. The Pakistani Foreign Minister started saying that Pakistani pressure forced India to hold talks.Now after these blasts should India still hold talks with Pakistan??HELL NO.
The current Indian government is as stated in a magazine a few months ago "a lame duck government".And i agree with that comment.Why is our government so scared of attacking Pakistan? If it is worried about what other world leaders would say then I would say only one thing : Worry about the safety of your country's people first and worry about everybody else later. And stop treating Ajmal Kasab like a guest. He has been caught doing terrorist activity. He will not speak much.He will only waste the court's time and make a mockery of our judiciary. Just hang him and set an example.

Srijoy, first of all i would like to add that we shouldn't be jumping to conclusions so early. you remember the malegaon bomb blast where hindu fundamentalists were involved? so it can be anything. I am not saying that its not Pakistan. I am just asking you to maintain certain caution before we start pointing fingers..at least not so early. Malegain case was a real shocker for me..I still can't believe that an INDIAN did this to INDIA.
Anyways on the INDIAN Govt going soft, I have to agree with you. There are a few things which you don't understand, which i may not understand but which play an important role in international politics. Tell me what INDIA should do to show that its serious? should we go and plunder Pakistan and set back our economy a decade or two back. No! The world understands and our political parties understand that INDIA as an economy is huge. Pakistan is not even one-fifth of our GDP. In today's world, economic might will rule. So we know that attacking pakistan is not useful..it will probably self destruct. However, what our leaders need to do is ensure more security..ensure that militants don't get into INDIA. But they are too m uch involved in petty issues like Marathi manoos or gaining the political mileage than showing actual ground work. Because if terrorists stop coming, there won't be any attacks..people will forget terrorism and our buddha netas will not get to make such fiery speeches and raise our sentiments for political mileage..we need to correct the indian way of thinking and working..that is why we need people like us to get into politics and not some run of the mill, jail hardened criminal. I hope you get the point.
Well economic might alone cannot rule ever. Military might is also important. And Pakistan uses military support given for the purpose of fighting terrorists by other countries for strengthening the army stationed at the LOC. I am not saying that India attack Pakistan but show guts to bombard their terror camps. But that will never happen because India has unlimited patience.
And you are right maybe its early for me to jump to conclusions.
I can understand your frustration at the pace at which things are happening, but I think war or open hostility with Pakistan will create more problems than it will solve. Pakistan is our neighbour and we can't wish it away. It is a geographical reality. We can't build a "Great Wall" along the border and pretend that Pakistan doesn't exist. We have to talk to them, no matter what. And at the same time, we have to work on the internal front to tighten up our defences. Thinngs are not as straightforward as one might think...
What is the point of talks if they fail constantly? In 1999 we talked and they sent troops across the LOC into kargil.
Well, first things first, i'll tell you something that you probably won't know about this German Bakery in Pune. Apart from being a popular hub for foreigners, the German Bakery happens to be quite a popular retreat for youngsters like us, who love talking matters over a cup of cold coffee. Infact, my friends in Pune, were but 10 minutes away from one such evening at that bakery, when tragedy struck there.
It was a shocker for me, and has been nothing less than that for scores of others who've been associated with that place in some way or the other. So, what exactly is the moral of the story ?? Well, it's simple. These terrorists have caught the right nerve. What they've realised is that, the most effective way of hurting the country, India, is not by attacking the "expected" targets, but by disrupting the lives of common man and instilling fear in them with regards to their day to day activities. Well, would a trip to the CCD ever be the same again after having witnessed this Pune incident.
So, should we still be attacking Pakistan ??? Well, if we can't protect our people in these normal times, just begin to imagine the jeopardy our internal security would be in, if we were to be in a state of war with our neighbours. Scary , isn't it ??
Well, that's just one of the reasons why i'd never recommend such a drastic step. And then again, though most of these terrorist organizations have been brainchild's of the ISI, and that would seem reason enough to attack the country as a whole, you have to realise that these organisations are run by "mad-men" who have reached a stage where they carry out these terror strikes on their own soil as well. Crazy , isn't it ?
That's where the silver lining comes in . Being in the similar dilemma that we are in , if we could somehow manage to convince the utterly "fickle minded" government of Pakistan, it would be a huge step for us, not only towards the eradication of these terrorist groups, but also towards a more peaceful relationship with one of our neighbours.
'Cause it's no secret that we have too many noisy neighbours to cope with. So, having pacified one of them, with a cute little lollipop to chew on, wouldn't be a bad option for us after all. :)
