This morning I watched the new version of Mile Sur Mera Tumhara, the national integration jingle launched in 1988. The new version was launched on 25th January and frankly speaking it failed to impress me.
As if it were necessary to inform us that the Indian film industry is the largest in the world churning out the most number of films (most of which are flops) the song overdosed on movie stars especially from Bollywood. I began wondering:’ What the hell were the makers of this song thinking? Do these film stars show our national integration? Why not concentrate on people who had made breakthroughs in other fields as well? What about our sports stars? Sachin, Sourav, Dhoni(basically the Indian cricket team as a whole),Leander Paes(tennis), Dhanraj Pillay(Hockey), Karnam Malleshwari (Weightlifting) , Pankaj Advani( Billiards) and many more from different disciplines deserve equal recognition. People from field of science and technology also deserve similar recognition. Why not concentrate on people who protect our borders so that we may sleep easily?

I Totally don't agree with you. people from other fields have been shown but for a very very small duration. U must understand one thing:-- people from the bollywood are overawed by themselves and their fan following, so they always try to overlook the immense popularity of sportsperson in INDIA. Cinema and related stuffs like these- a video - is their field, they are going to show to the masses that they are the faces of INDIA. so looking at that perspective what they have done in bringing in so called stars like deepika and priyanka is justifiable. but seriously speaking Deepika has not at all done a good job in the video. She is looking drab. But overlooking a few aspects the video was fair enough. 1 more thing, musicians shud understand -- everything cannot be RE-MAKED.
I agree that there was an overdose of bollywood. But that seems to be the trend. Saif Ali Khan gets a padma award for god knows what achievement in life apart from being born in a royal family, and Venkatraman Ramakrishnan, AR Rehman etc are given honours which, apart from being too late in coming, are indeed apologies in the name of awards- "Sorry we didnt realise your potential, but now that the world has realised it before us, please save our grace by accepting it."
